Series Overview

MMT started in the US when polio myelitis was active in early 1940's. Clinicians such as Wright, Lovett and Lowman were the first in the US to develop a muscle testing system that evaluated degrees of muscle strength for the progression of this disease. Since then, MMT has become a popular assessment method and continues to evolve into this modern day. Many practitioners from various disciplines find MMT to a valuable assessment tool.

MMT is an incredible evaluation tool and practice builder for the acupuncturist. Using MMT, before and after, an acupuncture treatment is essential. Strength changes are often noticeably different and it shows the practitioner the chosen acupuncture point selection and application was succussful. In addition, the strength change is noticed by the patient and has an impactful influence on you as an their acupuncturist. It is a profound practitioner and patient experience.

In this MMT video library for the acupuncturist, MMT and acupuncture points are shown for musculoskeletal injuries, muscle/channel imbalances, postural conditions, muscle firing sequences and more.

This video collection is broken down into the following categories: The Neck, The Shouder Joint, The Shoulder Girdle, The Low Back, Hip and Groin, The Knee and The Ankle

Changing muscle strength with acupuncture is something I have been using for 34 years as a licensed acupuncturist in clinical practice. I am excitied to share what has been successful for me.

Course Overview

This introduction consists of a brief history of MMT, key guidelines and fundamentals of MMT, which is important for beginners of MMT. This video collection not only includes manual muscle testing, but also orthopedic muscle resistive testing and assessment of muscle firing sequences, all of which help to differentiate specific injuries and detect imbalances that can be contributing to the injury. The acupuncture aspect of this video library discusses and motor point, adjacent and distal point protocols that significantly change the muscles strength, proprioception, range of motion, muscle firing sequences and pain. The viewer will see many examples of something that I call “Acupuncture as an Assessment”. This assessment protocol tests for muscles that are weak, with or without discomfort, that can be changed by needling one key point. This assessment protocol is a test, needle, test sequence that helps the practitioner determine key acupuncture point(s) to use during treatment. There are short clips of videos found in Course 2: The Neck, Shoulder and UE and Course 3: The Low Back, Hip and LE. Matt Callison has over 33+ years of experience combining MMT and acupuncture.

Course Objectives

  • The practitioner will understand the fundamentals for manual muscle testing accuracy in results.
  • The practitioner will understand the key guidlelines of manual muscle testing for effectiveness in results.
  • The practitioner will see examples for manual muscle testing and understand the theory behind this assessmentprotocol.
