Course Overview

Course Overview

In Jingshen module 3 we will explore the 'Metal phase' in Chinese Medical Pediatrics. In this module you will learn how to identify patterns of respiratory and skin disorders and understand treatment approaches to conditions such as colds, flus, asthma, eczema. The intention of this module is to provide the clinician with a strong foundation in understanding the unique role of the lung/skin in maintaining mind-body balance. Special pediatric guest lecturer Galli Stoffman MD will introduce the fundamentals of managing Childhood Trauma.

Course Overview

In module 4 of the JingShen Pediatrics course we will examine the physiology and pathology of the neurological system unique to the developing child/ We will explore some common pediatric conditions such as headaches, TBI, tics and seizures, and cerebral palsy and kidney disorders in children. The intention of this module is to provide the clinician with a strong foundation of understanding the neurologic basis of pathologies in children due to the immaturity of the Water-Wood-Fire triad. Special guest lecture by Thea Elijah LAc will discuss psycho-emotional conditions in the adolescent. Special guest lecture by David Miller MD, LAc will discuss the unique function of Eight Extraordinary Vessels in children.

Course Objectives

  • Learners will deepen their understanding of the 8 extraordinary vessels as it relates to pediatric development
  • Learners will have a foundational understanding of common neurological conditions and their treatment in Chinese Medicine
  • Learners will have practical treatment strategies for supporting children through difficult phases of development or encounters with developmental delays
  • Learners will explore the philosophy and treatment strategies of supporting adolescents on their developmental journey
