- Explore the Fire Spirit School of Chinese herbal medicine and discuss their emphasis on use of Fuzi in herbal prescribing.
- Discuss Qianyang Dan, a preeminent Fire Spirit School formula. Includes a historical context, formula variations, structure, dosages, indications, typical presentations and applications, and case examples.
- Discuss the modification of Qianyang Dan using both single herbs and entire formulas. Explore the hallmark symptoms or features that allow you to choose the most appropriate modification for presenting patterns.
Course Outline
0 hrs - 30 min
Heiner discusses the Fire Spirit School of Chinese herbal medicine and its emphasis of using Fuzi in herbal prescribing. He continues to explore the classical significance of Fuzi and cites examples from classical sources.
30 min - 1 hrs
Heiner explores the Fuzi family of formulas. The focus is Qianyang Dan. He addresses historical context, formula structure, formula variations, and dosages.
1 hrs - 1.5 hrs
Heiner explains how to modify Qianyang Dan to achieve a desired effect for presenting patterns using single herbs and formulas. He addresses historical context, formula structure, dosages, indications, typical applications and case examples.
1.5 hrs - 2 hrs
Heiner continues to explore how to modify Qianyang Dan with single herbs and entire formulas. The focus is on formulas Suanzaoren Tang, Anmian Tang, Erzhi Ean, and other minor formulas. He uses Guanyin Pearls, Peace Pearls and Love Pearls as examples.
2 hrs - 2.5 hrs
The final 30 minutes is devoted to a question and answer period. Questions will be selected from those posted in the Zoom chat based on relevance for the whole group.
