Course Overview

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is one of the most frequently misunderstood neurotypes in modern healthcare. This one and a half hour continuing education course, designed specifically for the East Asian Medical Practitioner, bridges the gap between evidence-based Western science and the profound energetic frameworks of Chinese Medicine. We move beyond outdated "deficit-based" models to explore autism as a unique neurological state of being rather than a disease to be cured. Participants will gain a foundation in the current DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria, while diving deep into the internal experience of the autistic perspective. We explore the high costs of social masking, the neurological reality of autistic burnout, and the critical distinction between sensory-driven meltdowns and behavioral tantrums. A dedicated section dismantles persistent myths to ensure practitioners can provide science-backed answers to patient concerns. The second half of the course examines ASD through the lens of Classical Chinese Medicine. We explore the Chong Mai as the "Sea of Blood" and the root of ancestral memory, alongside Kidney Jing and other related organ systems. This section moves beyond theory, offering a practical roadmap for modifying your clinic environment and patient interactions to provide truly empathetic care that honors the authentic neurotype of every patient.

Course Objectives

  • Be able to identify the core diagnostic criteria of ASD according to the DSM-5-TR and describe treats common in autistic individuals.
  • Be able to distinguish between common myths and evidence-based clinical realities in ASD.
  • Understand the impact of social masking and autistic burnout on adult patients to better support their long-term mental and physical well-being.
  • Be able to describe the role of the Chong Mai as the "Sea of Blood" and ancestral foundation in the context of the autistic neurotype and its related TCM patterns.
  • Learn how to implement practical clinical modifications, including sensory-friendly environment adjustments to improve patient comfort and safety.
